10-Day Tanzania Highlights Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

• Arrive at Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport
• Rest and transfer to a lodge in Arusha / town
• Prepare for safari

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

• Morning drive to Tarangire National Park
• Game drives among huge elephant herds and iconic baobab trees
• Wildlife highlights: elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest
• Occasional sightings: Fringe-eared oryx, Greater kudu, African wild dogs
• Over 550 bird species
• Overnight near or inside Tarangire area

Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park

• Game drive in Lake Manyara National Park
• Special highlights: Tree-climbing lions, Hippo Pool, Groundwater Forest
• Birdlife: Excellent for birdwatching with lake and wetlands
• Late afternoon transfer to Karatu / Ngorongoro region

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater

• Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for wildlife viewing
• UNESCO World Heritage Site and largest unbroken volcanic caldera
• Picnic lunch inside crater
• Wildlife: Lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, black rhinos, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, flamingos
• Evening return to crater rim and overnight in lodge/camp

Day 5: Travel to Serengeti

• Drive from Ngorongoro region to central Serengeti

Day 6: Full Serengeti Game Drive

• Optional hot-air balloon ride in the morning
• Serengeti: 14,750 km² of savannah, riverine forests, and woodlands; UNESCO World Heritage Site
• Home to largest concentration of wildlife on Earth
• Big cats: lions, cheetahs, leopards
• Other wildlife: elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest, various antelope species
• Possible Great Migration depending on the month

Day 7: Serengeti Optional Game Drives / Return

• More game drives in Serengeti (northern or southern)
• Return to Arusha region if desired

Day 8: Cultural / Village Visit

• Visit Maasai village or local community
• Experience Maasai culture, beadwork, traditions, and rotational grazing practices
• Cultural interaction and craft markets
• Insight into community-based conservation efforts

Day 9: Transfer to Zanzibar

• Fly or take ferry to Zanzibar
• Relax on the beach and explore Stone Town

Day 10: Zanzibar Tour & Departure

• Explore Stone Town: Old Fort, House of Wonders, Forodhani Gardens
• Enjoy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and cultural experiences
• Optional: Spice farms, Nungwi & Kendwa beaches, sunset cruises
• Depart for airport / onward travel
